Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2020

JANUARY 18–25, 2020

The 2020 theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is “They Showed Us Unusual Kindness” (cf. Acts 28:2).

Unusual kindness. What a gift, especially in times of being less than kind, especially in times when human lives seem less      precious than ever, due to civil strife, wars, terrorism, climate change and the very real results of all this: the mass migrations of people around the world.

Annually, leaders of faith communities throughout the world gather together to arrive at the theme for the annual celebration of Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This year the theme finds its origins in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 27:18 – 28:10). The initial work on the theme for this year was prepared by a group of representatives from the Christian Churches in Malta. This Week of Prayer for Christian Unity does not simply mean that I pray for you and you pray for me to become akin to who we are, but that we pray together for the building up of a new community made up of old and new faces. In that, we celebrate our diversity but truly become strangers no more.
